National Audio-Visual Institute
(NAVI)

The National Audio-Visual Institute (NAVI), which was initiated in 2021, started its journey designed towards collecting, preserving, and managing audiovisual media with the objective of enhancing accessibility of Malta and Gozo’s National audiovisual heritage.

NAVI currently holds around 354,000 individual items. These consist of a variety of media from photographic slides, films reels, audio tapes, CDS, cassettes, etc. To guarantee the preservation of such media, NAVI uses modern technology to digitize and maintain obsolete carriers where content is migrated to present-day formats.
