Gozo Section: Visit by members of the diocese of Frejus-Toulon, France

On the morning of 30 April 2011, a group of twenty four priests from the diocese of Fréjus-Toulon, led by their bishop Mgr. Dominique Rey, paid a visit to the National Archives Gozo Section. The majority of the priests hailed from Toulon, a town in southern France located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d’Azur region, and a large military harbour on the Mediterranean coast, with a major French naval base. Toulon is the capital of the Var department in the former province of Provence. The priests showed a lot of interest in the deposits at the National Archives especially in those related to the Church in Gozo and the old administration of the island. They also paged through the collection of old photos of Gozo as well as a number of original lace designs related specifically drawn for Church vestments. They were shown around by Joseph Bezzina, the Assistant National Archivist.
