Inauguration of a Digital Laboratory
During the past years, the National Archives has striven very hard to better preserve the memory of the nation of Malta with the help of the technology of informatics. This led to the digitalization of thousands of documents so as to better preserve this written heritage and make it available to researchers world-wide.
The process of digitalization led to the setting up of two digital laboratories, one at the premises of the National Archives at Rabat-Malta and another within the premises at Mdina. During the past year alone, the two laboratories produced over a million digital images. The time has come to set up a similar facility in the Gozo Section of the National Archives. It is the hope of the administration that the present staff of three is augmented by a member or two so that they could be trained on the digitalization process.
As a result, the written heritage of Gozo will be better preserved and will eventually be also made available to a world-wide public.
The digital lab will be inaugurated by the Minister on the same occasion.
